AWS Well-Architected

Build and evaluate your applications based on architectural best practices.

AWS Well-Architected Framework Reviews.

The Well-Architected Framework Review is an architectural assessment, based on the AWS Well-Architected six pillars, which support cloud architects in building secure, high-performing, resilient, and cost-efficient infrastructure for their applications.

As an AWS Well-Architected Partner, fourTheorem has the expertise to build high-quality solutions, implement best practices, check the state of workloads, and make improvements to fit business and customer requirements.

The six pillars:

  • Operational Excellence: Run and monitor systems to deliver business value while continuously improving processes and procedures. Identify gaps and employ best practices to enhance operations and customer outcomes.
  • Security: Protect information, systems, and assets through risk assessments, AI-generated security insights, automated monitoring, and mitigation strategies. Encompass people, processes, and data to build a strong security foundation.
  • Cost-Optimisation: Eliminate unnecessary costs by understanding spend over time, controlling fund allocation, selecting resources of the right type and quantity, and scaling to meet business needs without overspending.
  • Performance Efficiency: Ensure computing resources are used efficiently to meet system requirements. The strategy adapts to changing demands and evolving capabilities.
  • Reliability: Assess the ability to recover from failures, dynamically acquire computing resources to meet demand, and mitigate disruptions.
  • Sustainability: Improve sustainability impacts by reducing energy consumption and enhancing workload efficiency.

Benefits:

  • Understand and reduce risk: Identifying and addressing critical issues promptly helps maintain system stability and security, preventing potential disruptions that could affect business operations.
  • Continuous improvement: Regularly measuring systems against best practices and striving for continuous improvement leads to better product quality, increased customer satisfaction, and a more efficient and effective development process.
  • Faster build and deployment timeframes: Having a solid, reliable baseline infrastructure allows you to build and deploy applications faster, which is critical in meeting customer demands and scaling the system effectively.
  • Minimise system failures and optimise performance: Reducing system failures and improving performance ensures a more reliable and efficient AWS environment, leading to improved customer experiences and reduced downtime.
  • Reduce operational costs: Optimise architecture for cost and performance with dedicated guidance on designing and implementing applications, as well as recommendations on utilising AWS services to ensure they are cost-effective and meet performance requirements.

The Process:

Preparation

Ahead of the Review fourTheorem will need to identify the selected workloads, access any relevant AWS accounts, prepare the relevant data and arrange the review with the customer.

Review

During a one-day workshop, fourTheorem will meet with the customer and assess the current architecture. The review can be conducted onsite or remotely.

Report

fourTheorem will prepare a report evaluating the workload against AWS best practices. The identified areas for improvement will be prioritised as either High Risk or Medium Risk and will form the basis of a Statement of Work to address the necessary improvements.

Remediate

If the customer follows through with the recommended remediation with fourTheorem, they can receive $5,000 in credits from AWS to offset the costs of our professional services.
