Overview

Anuland is an innovative agricultural technology company based in Ireland dedicated to transforming farming practices through precision agricultural solutions. By integrating the latest advancements in hardware and software, Anuland empowers farmers to adapt to the evolving agricultural landscape. One of the company’s flagship products, Anuland FieldSense, is a state-of-the-art platform that uses machine learning to monitor soil health and track grass growth, optimising fertiliser usage. This powerful solution combines a sensor and camera unit to deliver accurate data and personalised fertiliser spread recommendations directly to a farmer’s smartphone, resulting in substantial time and cost savings.

By working with fourTheorem, we were able to accelerate our time to market and achieve a technology status that is enterprise-grade and built on the latest, most advanced AWS cloud services.

The Challenge

Anuland faced several key challenges as they worked to bring their solution to market. There was significant time-to-market pressure, with the need for rapid deployment being critical to remain competitive in the agricultural technology space. The company had a functional R&D prototype, but the backend was not production-ready and lacked the scalability and robustness required for real-world use. Anuland recognised the need for a trusted technology partner with expertise in AWS architecture and machine learning to help scale and enhance their system effectively.

The Solution

To address these challenges, fourTheorem architected a solution using AWS Serverless technology, AWS IoT Core, and AWS SageMaker.

Phase 1: Leveraged the existing Django backend with AWS Serverless technology to construct data ingestion and processing pipelines. Additionally, TensorFlow models were operationalised using AWS SageMaker. This approach allowed Anuland to quickly launch the product and start onboarding customers.

Phase 2: Following Phase 1’s success, the backend was gradually transitioned to a fully Serverless architecture, eliminating the need for EC2 instances and creating a more cost-effective, scalable platform. This move to Serverless technology removed infrastructure management challenges and ensured scalability.
